The champ Damek (Big Daddy Cool – World's Finest) continued on his winning way at the Devonport Raceway on Tuesday afternoon when he once again blitzed his rivals in the Dowling McCarthy Tyres Invitation (452 metres).
Drawn in the pink box, the Peter Phillips prepared chaser missed the kick slightly, but then accelerated to the lead in his customary fashion to eventually score by seven lengths in the time of 25.57.
Damek is unbeaten at the venue in eleven starts and can now boast the enviable record of 37 wins from 46 lifetime outings and a purse of in excess of $84,000.
He will have his next start in Heat 3 of the Macro Meats State Sprint Championship (515 metres) to be conducted at the Tote Racing Centre on Monday night and will once again run from the pink box.
Despite having failed at previous interstate campaigns, Damek will definitely make the trip to Queensland if he qualifies for the $75,000 Macro Meats National Sprint Championship Grand Final to be conducted at Albion Park on August 25.
“Peter will accompany him to Queensland if he qualifies and that should enable him to show his best,” June Phillips explained this week.
“He is a very sensitive dog and frets when away from familiar surroundings and people and on previous campaigns in Victoria, Peter has not been present.”
Meanwhile star staying bitch Ming Dynasty (Chinatown Lad – Brandon Sky) will attempt to make it five wins in succession when she contests Heat 3 of the Macro Meats State Distance Championship (720 metres) on Monday night.
The Susan Gittus prepared bitch has drawn favourably in the pink box and will once again stifle betting, despite having missed out on two important lead-up races.
On July 18, Heat 1 of the Boags Winter Stakes (720 metres) was abandoned due to a box malfunction and then on Monday night the entire LGRC meeting also had to be abandoned due to another major electrical problem.
“Her preparation has been far from ideal, however I am hoping that she will still have the ability to qualify for the National Distance Championship Grand Final,” Gittus explained.
“Her owner Paul Felgate lives in Queensland and it would be great if he could watch her contest the Grand Final first hand.”
The interesting runner at Monday night's LGRC meeting is no doubt the Ted Medhurst prepared Man For Man ( Mandagery Man – Roxy Nell), which will contest the Launceston Mitsubishi Grade 4 event (515 metres) from the white box.
The chaser was unbeaten four from four in Tasmania before embarking on a highly successful campaign in Western Australia, but is now back with the master trainer at Mangalore.
Medhurst is team building following a lengthy period of disqualification, but is starting to make his presence felt and won four races in succession at last Thursday nights HGRC meeting at Tattersalls Park in Hobart.
