Orange GRNSW Country Challenge Orange Cup Carnival

Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for the 2009 Country Challenge Cup close next Tuesday at 5pm with the club. The heats, to be staged on Saturday night January 17, are open to the Best 32 greyhounds nominated plus reserves over 520 metres and a guarded blind draw applies.

The January 24 final boasts a $5,000 winner's purse plus trophy and rug. Top flight local sprinter , a winner of 6 of his 7 starts, heads the list of nominations for the prestigious feature.

There are many other supporting features programmed for all grades of dogs over the duration of the carnival from January 17 thru to January 26.

Co-inciding with the Cup heats the club will hold maiden heats over 307 metres along with fifth grade heats over 520 metres on the January 17 card with the finals to be run on the big January 24 program also. A

nother feature on that program is the Reg Hurst Memorial for the Best 8 over 618 metres worth $500 to the winner.

The finals of both the aforementioned events will be held on the evening of January 26 the second day of the big weekend double header and the winner's purse for each is $500.

There will also be the John Fitzgerald Memorial a Best 8 event over 450m and Best 8 Orange Branch Flying over 307m on that card.

Capping off the carnival is a Novice race over 618 metres for dogs with 0-3 wins along with a GBOTA Veteran Stakes over for greyhounds 4½ years of age or older with preference given to greyhounds who have not won in the last 6 months then 5 months and so on, then least placings etc. down the list.

Those four races carry a guaranteed purse of $300 first prize.

Nominations for the Saturday January 24 program close on Tuesday January 20 at 5.00pm whilst nominations for Monday January 26 close the following day, Wednesday January 21 at 5.00pm.
