Packham Silk pings away to win at Shepparton
Packham Silk (8) takes the inside path to winning at Shepparton on Monday.

Packham Silk bounced back into the winners’ circle after a minor bump in the road, saluting at Shepparton on Monday afternoon.

The Anthony Azzopardi-trained chaser was sent to the boxes as slight second favourite paying $2.80 with greyhound betting sites in the 390m mixed grade race, with Victa Tara ($2.70) hunting her 10th straight win.

Jumping from box eight, Packham Silk got out to sit fifth with Get A Beer ($4.60) in the lead and Victa Tara moving up to second out of box seven.

Around the final corner, Victa Tara took over at the front with Packham Silk moving across to the rail and sweeping through to win.

She beat home Get A Beer by 1.17 lengths in 22.04, with Victa Tara finishing in third place.

It was the first look at the 390m trip at Shepparton, having run the shorter 385m journey there on July 7 saluting by close to seven lengths (6.5) in a fifth-grade heat.

Packham Silk is from a 2021 litter of eight by Aston Dee Bee and out of Nangar Silk, with Heidi McGraw the most successful with five wins and two placings from 10 starts, with $30,950 in prize money won.

Packham Silk has earned $18,135 for winning connections and from 14 starts has nine wins and four minor placings.

With a career that started with a win at the Ballarat 390m trip, on May 24, she has gone on to hold an impressive 93% strike rate after only going unplaced once when finishing fifth in an eight-dog field last time out on October 8.
