2023 Group 1 Topgun and Group 1 Topgun Stayers invitees named
The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) has sent out invitations for greyhound owners to nominate their dogs for the 2023 Group 1 Topgun and Group 1 Topgun Stayers events.
These races are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 11, at The Meadows.
Owners have until 10 a.m. on Friday, October 27 to submit their nominations to Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV).
Scott Wuchatsch, the CEO of MGRA, acknowledged the challenge faced by the selection panel in choosing the participants.
“Every year, it’s a decision for the panel to finalize the fields, and this year is no different,” said Wuchatsch.
To ensure that the races have the best starters, MGRA has given autonomy to the selection panel to invite any deserving greyhounds they see fit for nomination.
“The Topgun is one of our races of the year, and we believe this adjustment in conditions will enable a highly competitive field ” explained Wuchatsch.
The Sportsbet Topgun is a Group 1 event with a prize pool of $250,000; the winner will receive $100,000.
The Topgun Stayers race is also a Group 1 event with a prize pool of $100,000; its winner will earn $40,000.
The final list of participants for both races will be announced on Tuesday, November 1.
