Palawa King serves up a huge performance at The Meadows
Palawa King served up a huge performance to win at The Meadows on Saturday in a race with loads of quality chasing talent.
Lining up in the mixed 4/5 grade contest over 600m, the Raymond Smith-trained chaser clashed with a field that included the fastest racer over the distance in Hector Fawley, reigning Melbourne Cup Final winner Yachi Bale and Group 2 McKenna Memorial Final runner Andre Bale.
Palawa King was sent out at $4 odds by top online greyhound bookmakers with Hector Fawley the race favourite, paying $2.20.
On box rise, Andre Bale hit the lead to dictate terms with the race favourite in second before being checked.
Once checked Hector Fawley was pushed to second last and didn’t recover from there.
Palawa King zoomed through the field as he pounced on the leader as they turned the final bend.
He would go on to win by four lengths in front of Andre Bale ($6.50) and Minter Frost ($14), in a time of 34.18.
