Sharpe Size’s Up Group Races in ’09
Troy Sharpe's Kay Size State blitzed a quality field last Thursday night, and will set out to improve again in preparation for a Group win in 2009.
The impressive dog, by Elite State and out of Queen Size, won with lightning speed last week in 30.01.
Jumping from box four tonight, it will be a true test for Kay Size State in the Best Eight Australia Day Cup against some of Brisbane's best greyhounds including proven performer Lucky Alive.
Lucky Alive, trained by Rex Marshall, ran an impressive second behind international champion Size Can Matter last Thursday night from box eight, and will jump from box seven tonight.
Its Lucky Alive's third start back since a short trip to Sydney, having improved in his last two starts, which he finished third and then second.
Competition is also certain from box one with Special Phantom backing up after an impressive third behind Lucky Alive last week from box two.
Reg Hazelgrove's Eskimo Dancer will be looking for a strong finish among the quick field, unable to find luck last start.
The rest of Thursday night's race card will again showcase quality Queensland greyhound racing.
Race Three, the Garrards Best Eight 710m, will see Black Ruler return to the staying race after running over 520m last week.
Black Ruler made the trip back in distance after running flat to finish second behind Smart Choice on the 15th January.
Jumping from box one, he will need to pull out one of his blistering performances with in-form stayer Smart Choice (box five) and the improving Rulla Ant (box four) sure to chase hard.
Smart Choice has won five, and finished second twice, in his nine starts over the distance at Albion Park.
However, Rulla Ant will be one to keep a close eye on having shown impressive improvement over her past two starts putting the pressure on Smart Choice last week to finish second in only her second start on the track.
The fourth and fifth grade Cartwright Property Group 710m race (Race Four) will see One Missing looking to familiarise herself with the winning flash again.
The Tony Zammit-trained bitch has run close placings in recent races, and will be looking for her first win in 10 starts.
Irish Fantasy offers the biggest threat in this race, having beat One Missing last week from box four in a best time of 42.47.
Michelle Fletcher's Flick The Switch shouldn't be treated lightly from box seven, having her first start at Albion Park after recording a few wins down south at Wentworth Park and Gosford.
In Race Six, Sangio King (box five), Kathy's Recall (box seven) and Intelligence (box four), will be short-priced in this tough fourth grade event. However, northern rives performer Katakolo will be one to watch from box one.
Katakalo boasts a recent Lismore best time of 29.96 over 520m and an Albion Park history of two starts for one win.
