West Australian speedster Iconic Jet is set to headline next Saturday’s Group 1 Silver Chief Final at The Meadows, following a commanding performance in the heats.
The highly promising sprinter clocked 29.89 seconds, the second-fastest time of the night, as he led throughout to secure his spot in the final as a $3.60 favourite with Neds.
Owned by Carli-Ann Taylor and Steve Dixon, Iconic Jet has been a standout in his short career, winning 13 of 19 starts.
Trainer Shayne Williams entrusted Victorian-based Brendan Pursell to prepare the dog for the Silver Chief series, a move that has paid dividends.
With a career-best time of 29.56 in a trial at The Meadows, Iconic Jet has the credentials to take out the $75,000-to-the-winner feature on December 14.

Silver Chief Heat 1 race replay – Paw Vortex (29.81)
The opening heat of the Silver Chief series set a high standard as Paw Vortex delivered a dominant performance.
Trained by Samantha Grenfell, the sprinter began cleanly from box three, quickly taking control of the race with a blistering early split of 5.10 seconds.
He extended his lead heading into the back straight, clocking 17.78 seconds, the fastest second section of the night.
Paw Vortex crossed the line in a sharp 29.81 seconds, holding off a late challenge from Paw Qwan, who progressed to the final as one of the fastest runner-ups.
Highly Connected rounded out the placings, finishing third after staying in contention throughout the race.
Silver Chief Heat 2 race replay – Giacomo (29.98)
Heat two saw Giacomo capitalise on his middle draw to lead all the way.
Jumping well from box four, the Jeff Britton-trained runner showed early speed with a 5.07-second first section. He established a handy lead over Raven Peter, who tried valiantly to close the gap late.
Giacomo’s time of 29.98 seconds secured his spot in the final, while Raven Peter advanced as the second runner-up.
Spencer finished third after staying within striking distance but lacked the acceleration to challenge the top two.
Silver Chief Heat 3 race replay – Knurling (30.13)
In a race filled with drama, Knurling stormed home to claim victory in heat three.
The Tina Womann-trained $12 BlondeBet roughie capitalised on a tumultuous start that saw race favourite Field Day checked early and relegated to the rear.
Knurling remained patient in the early stages, surging into contention down the back straight. With a sustained run in the final stages, he overhauled Elite Intention, clocking 30.13 seconds to secure his place in the final.
Paw Gunner finished third, while Field Day’s unlucky run saw him miss out on a berth.
Silver Chief Heat 4 race replay – Iconic Jet (29.89)
Iconic Jet confirmed his credentials as one of the leading contenders for the final with a scintillating display in heat four.
Starting as the $1.70 Picklebet favorite, the Group 3 Young Stars Classic winner surged from box two, clocking a 5.07-second first split and an extraordinary 17.58-second back straight.
Trained by Brendan Pursell, Iconic Jet showed his class to cross the line in 29.89 seconds, holding off a fast-finishing Paw Ike.
Crocodile Roll secured third after showing early speed but faded late, unable to match the winner’s pace.
Silver Chief Heat 5 race replay – Deadly Avenger (29.96)
Heat five featured a thrilling finish as Deadly Avenger showcased both speed and determination to secure victory.
Breaking cleanly from box seven, the George Borg-trained sprinter settled behind Paw Utility, who took an early lead.
Deadly Avenger rallied strongly in the home straight, diving through on the inside to reclaim the lead and win in 29.96 seconds.
Paw Utility finished second, while Vista Yttrium ran on for third after finding clear running late.

The final heat delivered another highlight as the Melbourne Cup runner Epitomize overcame early interference to storm home for victory.
Known for his explosive early speed, the Bradley Greenough-trained runner had to work hard from a wide draw, finding himself three-wide into the first turn.
Despite the tough run, Epitomize displayed tremendous tenacity, taking control late to win in 30.11 seconds.
Extradited finished second after setting the early pace, while Paw Kramer held on for third in a tight finish.
