Small Greyhound Race Program Produces Good Racing At Canberra
Despite the small program the racing at Canberra on Sunday still produced some amazing results for owners, trainers and punters.
Having taken all year to get there the wins have come in a flourish for Bungendore trainer Greg Millwood who topped last week’s win to Aranda with another break through Maiden win to kennelmate Semenya.
The Red Brindle Bitch started long odds on favourite for the five dog event, winning by 4 ¾ lengths to Elite Nurse, Portobello Road coming in third with a winning time of 25.79.
Also coming up in the red in the market, Cawbourne Lisa took out the second event with two lengths separating first through to fifth.
The feature event of the evening was the Brian Scott Memorial Battlers Final, which saw Keith Morgan take home the chocolates and a nice Christmas bonus of $900 with Morgo’s Babe just beating Highland Abbey another half a length back to race favourite Jada Kain.
The win a big thrill for the Morgan family, who made it their second feature final win at Canberra for 2009.
Lucky punters taking home up to $83 for the win, with local ACTTAB, Highland Abbey who won her heat last week paying big place overs at $6 locally too.
Race four saw Galba Magic continue her great Canberra form making it four wins from four Canberra appearances in a good 18.03 win over Berella Laura and Trade.
The fifth had Ammon Bale lead early before injuring himself in the home straight, the remainder of the field passing, with the win going to Brassed Off, 2 3/4lengths to Berella Chelsea, Five To Life rounding out the placings.
The final event giving Andy Lord a running double American Spot just getting home over early leader Miss Jagz, Sir Pedro rattling home to fill the minors in 30.75.
All continues this Sunday with a SKY Racing meet, as Canberra Greyhounds gets ready to step into the new year with racing the 3rd, 10th and 17th of January.
