Stewards Reports: RWWA clamps down on social media policy

South Australian trainer Tony Fry has been informed that the urine sample taken from his greyhound Blaze Victorem at the Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) race meeting held at Gawler on December 8, 2021, has been analysed and is confirmed to contain the prohibited substance carprofen.

Mr. Fry has been advised that GRSA Stewards have opened and adjourned an inquiry into the matter. Greyhound Racing South Australia made the announcement on February 28.

Mullany pinged for social media breach

Racing and Wagering Western Australia have fined licensed greyhound trainer Tim Mullany for breaching their social media policy.

After receiving a report from RWWA Senior Investigator Geoff Johnson and hearing evidence, Mullany pleaded guilty to publishing an image on his Facebook account, that was disrespectful and had the potential to bring the sport into disrepute.

Mullany was also pinged for publishing an image to another licensed person, which was also a breach of the social media policy. He was fined $4000 in total, with $2000 of the fine suspended for a year.

RWWA said in a statement they had taken into account a number of things when fining Mullany, including his past history and the need to keep the image of the sport positive.

Apps suspended for two months following cobalt positive

Trainer Gillian Apps has been suspended for eight weeks, following a positive result for cobalt in sample taken before the 10th race at Temora on October 23, 2021.

Greyhound Racing NSW made the announcement on March 3 after an investigation, which found the greyhound Battie’s Banquet had a cobalt level above the mass concentration limit of 100 nanograms per millilitre.

Apps pleaded guilty and made submissions in relation to the charge, with several factors included in her sentence, such as being an active participant with a clean sheet in the sport since 1975.

Battie’s Banquet was suspended from the race in question.

Cook fined for inappropriate behaviour

Brett Cook has been suspended for three months and fined $1000 for breaching Greyhound Racing Victoria’s GAR86 rule on March 8.

Cook was investigated for the alleged breach that occurred on October 21 and found guilty, with the charge surrounding “behaviour towards GRV staff which, in the opinion of the stewards, is improper and constitutes misconduct.

Leneham breaches LRR 42.9 (a)

Stephen Leneham has been fined by GRV for failing to report the deaths of five greyhounds.

The initial charge was filed and adjourned on December 2, 2020, with the charges including a breach of LRR 42.9 (a), which is a failure to report the deaths within two working days.

He was also fined for failing to dispose of the the five greyhounds via a method approved by the board and for failing to keep a record of their compliance with these rules.

Leneham was fined $500 for each breach of the rules.

Guy fined for failing to report dogs deaths

Jeffrey Guy has been suspended for nine months (wholly suspended) and fined $2000 for charges filed on November 25, 2020.

Guy was charged with breaches of LRR 42.9 (a) which involves failing to notify the board of the death of five greyhounds and failing to dispose of the deceased dogs in an approved method.

Guy was also charged with failing to comply with GAR 106 (1) (c) which involves not providing greyhounds with kennels constructed of a standard approved or kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
