Dave Smith has the $1.65 million Phoenix in mind after Super Estrella’s convincing Sydney Cup triumph.

The superstar three-year-old bitch and reigning National Distance champion was unstoppable from box one in the $130,000 Group 2 feature over 720m at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Indeed, Super Estrella lived up to her $1.40 favouritism with online bookmakers, never headed before comfortably saluting in 41.58 seconds, which was 2 ¾ lengths ahead of runner-up, Ariarne Bale.

It was her sixth win in a row – all under 42 seconds.

And now with $448,220 to her name and 32 wins from 69 starts, it is no wonder Smith is considering some new and lucrative southern challenges for his staying sensation.

She simply keeps getting better and better.

The Topgun Stayers on November 5 and The Phoenix on December 17 – both at The Meadows – are now firmly on the radar for Super Estrella.

“She is (continuing to improve), but this is her local track. And we might have to head interstate into the other dogs’ backyard,” Smith said.

“So we’ll find out.”

Smith said Super Estrella’s natural ability was matched by her outstanding work ethic.

“I’m on top of the world. She tries so hard. She does everything right – she’s everything you want in a greyhound,” he said after her victory on Saturday night.

“It’s very special. It’s just a tremendous feeling in front of this crowd to have a dog to that.

“She just trains on so well. She goes up and down the yard and does everything right.”
