Tasmanian Greyhound Hall of Fame welcomes three new inductees

In , Tasmania, three new members were recently inducted into the Tasmanian Greyhound Hall of Fame.

This special ceremony took place during the box-draw event for the final held on Saturday night, December 9, 2023.

Two remarkable Tasmanian greyhounds joined the Hall of Fame group, Summer Idol and .

Summer Idol, a fawn dog born in April 1968, made an impact on .

With a of 91 races, he secured 31 victories and ran 33 minor placings.

His remarkable wins include the 1969 Tasmanian Final, the 1971 Tasmanian Distance Championship, and the 1971 Winter Stakes Final.

Black Caleb proved himself as a Tasmanian champion with his outstanding performances on the track.

Born in December 1998, this black dog achieved a record of 29 wins and secured 17 minor placings out of his total of 50 starts.

His notable accomplishments include winning acclaimed titles like the 2001 Group 1 Hobart Thousand final, the 2001 Group 3 Cup final, and also triumphing in the Cup final of that year.

Black Caleb's consistent excellence led him to compete in race finals and establish his reputation as a formidable competitor.

The Tasmanian Greyhound Hall of Fame also paid tribute to Pearl and , esteemed owners, trainers, and breeders who dedicated more than four decades to the sport in Tasmania.

Pearl, an advocate for women's involvement in greyhound racing, trained racers like Nippy Bug, Mad Century, and Berry Cream.

Brian, who passed away in 1981, shared a passion for training greyhounds and achieved significant success throughout his career.

The Hobart Greyhound Racing Club (HGRC) acknowledged Pearl's contributions by granting her life membership in 1993; she sadly passed away in 2006.
