The Phoenix slot-holders announced

The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) has announced the slot holders for the 2023 running of the pay-to-play greyhound race, The Phoenix, at The Meadows.

For the third running of The Phoenix, slot holders had to pay $100,000 to secure their right to start a greyhound in the $1,000,000 to-the-winner race.

Slot owners had to apply for entries back in July, and after an independent review process; the eight slot holders were announced on Friday, September 9.

MGRA Racing Manager Corey Smith was buoyant about the interest to secure a slot for the third running of the race, saying, “As we’ve seen across the first two editions of The Phoenix, there’s a wonderful appetite in the industry and beyond to be part of this race and the overall event.”

This list includes a number of businesses that have participated in multiple Phoenix editions in the past, along with some first-timers.

MGRA CEO Scott Wuchatsch said “2023 sees an exciting mix of slot holders.

“We now have a number of high engagement perennials, again seeking the ultimate prize.

“There’s also a trio of new faces, proving the demand to be a part of this amazing greyhound racing event is by no means slowing down.”
