Maybe Yesterday wins Healesville Cup

Maybe Yesterday began quickly and gave nothing else chance, leading all the way to win the 2023 Healesville Cup on Sunday.

The -trained Maybe Yesterday avenged a small margin loss in the 2023 at Healesville by winning the $55,000 to-the-winner final of the 2023 Group 2 Healesville Cup on Sunday.

Maybe Yesterday, by out of Eye Will Reign, qualified second fastest for the Healesville Cup from the heats and drew well out in box seven for the final.

Greyhound bookmakers immediately put Maybe Yesterday up as a +170 second favourite after the box draw, behind Unleash Collinda at +160.

Remarkably though, Maybe yesterday got out in greyhound betting to start at +240 as spirited money came for the -trained Unleash Collinda, who eventually firmed in to start a -111.11 favourite with greyhound betting apps.

But as the lids rose at Victoria’s only straight greyhound track, Maybe Yesterday put the race beyond reach of all, flying the boxes on the way to a career-best 6.39 first section that gapped the field.

The early margin proved the difference in the run to the line, with race favourite Unleash Collinda unable to bridge the gap, going down to Maybe Yesterday by 3.0 lengths in 18.78.

The Group 2 win marks the second time that Maybe Yesterday has beaten Unleash Collinda in their past five clashes, with the Jason Thompson-trained star coming out on top the other three times.

In the National Straight Track Championship on August 26, Unleash Collinda beat Maybe Yesterday home by a length to take the spoils over the Healesville 350m journey.

With a career that kicked off on September 18 last year, over the 350m Healesville trip, Maybe Yesterday notched up three straight wins to open his racing account.

The black son of Bernardo has recorded 20 wins and 8 placings from 31 career starts, and has earned $161,166 in prizemoney for the Sparkle And Fade syndicate, which is comprised of trainer Andrew Paraskevas and his father John.

Only two of Maybe Yesterday’s career wins have come away from Healesville, with the track-specialist having won 18 races there and recorded another seven placings from 27 starts at the track.
