Drill Sergeant, a standout stayer in Australian greyhound racing, has officially been retired, with connections now considering a future in the breeding ranks.

Bred from My Redeemer out of Princess Pout, the black and white chaser was owned by Neil Young and trained by Shane Drummond, compiling a stellar career record of 73 starts for 20 wins, 23 seconds, and 11 third-place finishes, accumulating $374,503 in prize money.

A proven competitor at the highest level, Drill Sergeant’s career was highlighted by his 2023 Group 1 Sale Cup victory at $13 odds with the top greyhound bookmakers.

A defining moment that underscored his strength over the middle-distance and staying ranks.

In 2024, he consistently featured among the elite, finishing runner-up in both the Group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers and the Group 1 Topgun Stayers, further cementing his reputation as one of the premier stayers in the country.

He also captured the 2024 Listed Topcat Video Cup in September at The Meadows, another feature milestone to his resume.

In a recent announcement on Drill Sergeant’s facebook page, connections expressed their intent to explore stud opportunities, stating,

“Now that we are retired, we are looking to explore new opportunities!

A journey and a half it has been, but now we would like to drum up any interest for being a sire at stud!

Please send us a message if this is something that may interest you!”

They also noted that while Drill Sergeant is not yet a registered sire, they are open to taking the necessary steps given sufficient interest.

As Drill Sergeant transitions from the track to hopefully stud duties, his impressive lineage and racing positions him as a promising sire for future generations of greyhounds.
