Trainer suspended in greyhound luring, baiting probe
A Victorian greyhound trainer has been immediately suspended by Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) stewards following an investigation into alleged luring and baiting activities.
The suspension took effect after GRVs Greyhound Racing Integrity Unit Investigative Stewards conducted a targeted inspection at a property in Devon Meadows.
During the inspection, evidence relating to these offences was discovered.
The identity of the trainer has not been revealed.
They were questioned by the stewards before being suspended.
The investigation is still ongoing and may result in charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (POCTA).
Stuart Laing, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GRV, emphasised that the industry takes a stand against baiting offences due to their impact on animal welfare, the integrity of the sport, and the reputation of greyhound racing as a whole.
Laing commended GRV’s Greyhound Racing Integrity Unit for their work in uncovering these breaches and taking action.
He also stressed their commitment to thoroughly investigating allegations, gathering evidence, and taking measures while considering criminal violations under Victoria’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 and offences under the Rules of Racing.
Once the investigation concludes, further updates will be provided on this matter.
