Transponder delivers Thompson a fifth Adelaide Cup victory
Transponder held off a late challenge to take his first Group 1 win after saluting in the 2023 Adelaide Cup at Angle Park on Friday night
Trained by Jason Thompson, the dog started as a joint race favourite paying +360 with top online greyhound betting sites, alongside the Jackie Greenough-trained Big Energy.
Out of box one, Transponder used the inside alley to spear to the front early, with Big Energy straight into second soon after box rise.
Into the home straight, Big Energy found late to challenge for the win in the shadows of the post, but the challenge proved too little to late.
Transponder took the $100,000 to-the-winner race from fellow Victorian greyhound Big Energy by 0.13 lengths in 30.27.
Mepunga Smokey completed the Group 1 Victorian trifecta crossing in third for trainer Jeff Britton.

With the win, Transponder made it two wins from three starts at the South Australian city track, with the other being in his heat of the Adelaide Cup, beating home Crackerjack Bull in 30.17.
The Adelaide Cup win marks the fifth for the Thompson family, previously winning with Hooked On Scotch (2019), Aqua Cheetah (2016), El Galo (2009) and Whippy's Image (2008).
Transponder is a son of owner Amander Tullio's own stud dog, Delive, and the dam Unquestionably.
He took his record to 37 starts for 20 wins and 12 placings for $245,625 in prize money.
Online greyhound bookmakers have Transponder in their ‘all-in' markets as a +800 chance to win the Topgun on November 11.
His kennelmate Postman Pat is the current +200 favourite for the same $150,000-to-the-winner race.
