Tsar Bell ends Fast Minardi’s streak with Launceston win

Tsar Bell out-stayed Fast Minardi over the 720m on Monday night.

Tsar Bell served up a huge performance to run down a red-hot favourite in the Distance Championship Final at Launceston on Monday night.

The -trained dog was sent out at $9.50 in the free-for-all contest, with Fast Minardi starting at $1.05 as he lined up hoping to make it five straight.

Paul Hili's dog jumped at the same quote last week on his first look at the 720m distance.

The race favourite got out to lead for most of the trip, as expected, but Tsar Bell ate up the ground from the final turn to take the win in the shadows of the post.

It was redemption for the winner after finishing second 6.75 lengths behind Fast Minardi last week.

He ran the trip in 42.24 and notched up his first win over the Launceston 720m on his third attempt, having placed second and third previously.

It was his first win since January 28, when he saluted over the 715m journey at .

Tsar Bell has 19 wins and 24 placings from 73 starts, banking $149,810 in prize money.
