Two Wells trainers triumph in 2024 Broken Hill Cup

Two Wells, South Australia, trainers Kiah Hurley and Justin Tribey, secured the second biggest win of their careers on Sunday night, June 2, 2024, when they won the 2024 Broken Hill Cup with Long Haul.
The couple, who had their breakthrough win in the 2024 Mt Gambier Cup with Chapel Road, not only took out the $10,000 to-the-winner feature race but managed to quinella the final with Chapel Road running second.
Hurley started three greyhounds in the far-western NSW premier cup and managed a fifth in the final with the third finalist, Zelda Chaos.
Nick Lalli bought all three of the greyhounds from Victorian trainers so they could compete in South Australia.
In the final, greyhound betting sites had Long Haul on the fifth line of betting, paying +500 after drawing box five.
But that price would prove “overs” after the first 75 metres of the race, when Long Haul was able to reach the lead past the winning post the first time.
Heading down the back straight, Long Haul “gapped” the field and put up a commanding race-winning margin over the rest of the field.
Despite strong finishes from Chapel Road and Osprey Diva, Long Haul was able to cruise to the line in the easiest of feature race wins in a time of 30.43 seconds.
Kennelmate Chapel Road finished second, four lengths from the winner, while Osprey Diva finished a further 0.75 lengths back in third.
Hurley’s other finalist, Zelda Chaos, finished fifth, beaten by 11 lengths.
