The Sandown Greyhound Racing Club has announced GMB Constructions as the successful contractor for the $3million refurbishment of the Henry Harrison Grandstand, and works will commence on Tuesday 6 April.
The project will necessitate some short-term impacts in terms of capacity, with the dining room reduced to a maximum of 120 diners and the closure of the current general public area.
Full tote and snack bar facilities will be available to the general public in the current committee/Terrace dining room area. These changes are expected to be in place from April to June inclusive.
Meanwhile on the track, the racing surface has been fully replaced with Burrumbeet sand (the same surface used at The Meadows, Ballarat, Warrnambool and the new Warragul circuit), and the starting boxes at the 595m racing distance have been installed and will be commissioned in the coming week.
Trials on the new track will commence on Saturday 27 March. Trainers are advised to contact the Club on (03) 9546 9511 for up to date trial information.
Racing resumes at Sandown Park on Thursday 8 April, while the new weekly Sunday race meetings will commence on Sunday 11 April.
