Watts Has Jeff The Tipster Flying

Smart chaser Jeff The Tipster made it three wins from as many starts at Monday night’s LGRC meeting conducted at the Tote Racing Centre, when he blitzed a smart field in the AMC Search Ltd Juvenile (515 metres).

The son of recorded a time of 30.03 in scoring by three lengths as a heavily supported $1.60 favourite.

Raced by a syndicate headed by Victorian Greg Swann, has now won at all three Tasmanian venues since debuting at the Raceway on April 30, but according to trainer Russell Watts, is better suited around a horse shoe track.

“I know he recorded reasonable time in on Monday night, however he still does not look comfortable on that track, which may determine where we go with him next,” he explained this week.

“I was looking at the Heats commencing on June 17 at the Tote Racing Centre, but will discuss the matter with before making a decision.”

Watts prepared a double at Monday night’s meeting when Seagull Boy, raced by the same connections, was successful in the Oamps Insurance Brokers Grade 3 (515 metres).

The son of recorded a best of the night time of 29.74 in scoring by three lengths while paying a win dividend of $2.70.

Seagull Boy has now won three races and been placed on six occasions in Tasmania, since debuting at the Devonport Raceway on March 19.

Both Jeff The Tipster and Seagull Boy are offspring of the successful matron Petal, a bitch by from Rose Garden, a daughter of Pete’s Boss.

“I have enjoyed success with three of Petal’s progeny, which incidentally are members of three different litters,” he explained.

“The very good stayer Pudzianowski was by Pure Octane and won me several races to set the ball rolling, so I am quite a fan of her progeny.”

Meanwhile Burnie trainer Arnie Elphinstone was seen in the winners circle again at Tuesday’s NWGRC meeting conducted at the Devonport Raceway, when Who’s Talking was successful in the Hankook Tyres Juvenile (452 metres).

The son of put eight lengths on his rivals while recording a time of 26.11 and paying a handsome win dividend of $10.80.

Elphinstone has now won two races with Who’s Talking, which is raced by Victorian owner Deborah Barron.

“I have been friends with Deborah for many years and from time to time we exchange greyhounds if we think they are better suited elsewhere,” he explained.

Smart chaser Hindsight was the fastest winner at Tuesday’s meeting, when he recorded a slick 25.79 in winning the Betta Milk Invitation Stake (452 metres) by seven lengths and paying a win dividend of $2.10.

One of the highly successful Aston Galilee – Patsy Anne litter, he has now won 10 of 20 lifetime outings from the kennel, while accumulating a purse of in excess of $16,000.
