What you may have missed: GRNSW introduce policy on lures

UNDER the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979, participants have been advised by Greyhound Racing New South Wales that they are prohibited from using any type of animal carcass or animal part for the use of training, rearing and education of greyhounds.

There is only one exception to this rule, with a tanned and professionally processed skin able to be used providing that evidence of where it was sourced is immediately available to GRNSW upon their request.

An audible device may also be installed in an approved skin if desired.

Participants are now also required to inform GRNSW of any domestic pets or animals used for agricultural purposes that live on the same property where greyhounds are being kept, trained or raced.

Anyone deemed to have breached these rules will be subjected to a minimum 10 year disqualification and a fine deemed appropriate by GRNSW.

Anyone who witnesses a breach of these lure rules and fails to report it to GRNSW faces a minimum disqualification period of five years and a maximum fine of $20,000.

Worth A Replay

Despite the old saying of no-one remembers who came second, it's definitely worth watching the run of Sweet It Is which was runner-up behind Space Star in a heat of the Group 3 Gold Cup at Wentworth Park last Saturday evening.

Space Star hit the front at the winning post the first time and Sweet It Is was at least 12 lengths from the leader heading into the back straight. On a wet surface, the daughter of Mogambo and Off Springer, which has earned over $500,000 in prizemoney, reduced the winning margin to just 2.25 lengths, with the winner recording a sizzling time of 41.71.

Owner/trainer Braden Finn had plenty of reasons to smile after the event, witnessing a tremendous performance by his chaser, which is a genuine contender to take out this week's final.

Watch Space Star (box four) defeat Sweet It Is (box eight) in 41.71.
