Young Guns Line Up For A Shot At Ipswich Final
Some of Queensland’s most promising juveniles will converge on the Ipswich track this Tuesday afternoon for the final of the 2014 RQ Young Guns.
The $10,080 to-the-winner event has attracted some quality conveyances who qualified through heats last week.
Prolific Sunshine State mentor Reg Kay appeared to have a mortgage on the 2014 final when he qualified his two Ipswich specialists, Happy Haswell (4) and Tear Away Size (8), the latter of which has been scratched.
Peter Ruetschi continues the great run with his ultra consistent Outa Credit-Where Are You litter by qualifying two runners for another feature event. Ruetschi will rug up You Can Talk (2) and You Say So (7) for the race.
The event is Race Seven on the card and is scheduled to jump at 5:50pm
Here is a look at the full field in detail;
1 – Californian Dude (Paul McIlveen) – A winner of only three races from 19 career outings, none of which have been at Ipswich. He qualified for this final with a second to Don’t Josh Me beaten 4 3/4 lengths. He will need to improve to win this race.
2 – You Can Talk (Peter Ruetschi) – A very talented race bitch who has won 17 of her 35 career starts. She has a genuine penchant for Ipswich with five wins from six attempts and a best of 30.45. She is drawn to be right in the mix.
3 – High Radar (John Pay) – Had been racing in easier class before a good second to You Can Talk in the heats. He has won four from 16 and has a best of 30.74 at Ipswich. This race looks a little too tough for him.
4 – Happy Haswell (Reg Kay) – One of the most promising you do dogs in Queensland who has won eight of his 19 career starts. The son of Surf Lorian and Teenage Dream (Knocka Norris – Size ‘Em Up) is undefeated in his two starts at Ipswich and boasts a scintillating best of 30.18. His only two career losses have come from this box which is the only worry heading into this final. He will take some beating.
5 – Don’t Josh Me (Wayne McDonald) – Has a solid career strike rate with seven wins from 21 starts. He has been in consistent form of late and has won three of his last six, with all of those wins being at Ipswich. He won his heat in 30.60 but has a personal best of 30.43. He is a definite each-way proposition.
6 – Rosdue Bomber (Terrence Chapman) – A winner of just four from 21 who caused a boilover in the heats with a 30.96 win. She does not win out of turn and will need to be on her best behaviour to figure here. She looks a place chance only.
7 – You Say So (Peter Ruetschi) – This dog is always thereabouts, often without winning, but never far away. He has only won seven but been in the top three on 24 occasions from his 37 career starts, that includes 13 second placings. He got within 3 3/4 lengths of Happy Haswell in the heat but is going to have to be right on his game to be any winning chance.
8 – Tear Away Size (Reg Kay) – SCRATCHED
Reserves
9 – Knights Templar (Amy O’Reilly) – A maiden who has had only two starts and lands a gig from box eight here. He will need to be a lot better than his two career starts to date to compete with the seasoned performers in this race.
