The all-in odds have been released for the 2024 Group 1 Paul Wheeler Simply The Best race, formerly known as the Paws of Thunder, which will take centre stage at Wentworth Park on December 21, 2024.
Renamed to honour iconic NSW breeder Paul Wheeler, the race brings together Australia’s top middle-distance greyhounds, competing for a $75,000 winner’s prize.
Good Odds Cobber and Zipping Megatron have opened as the $9 co-favorites with the leading greyhound bookmakers, with Miss Envy and Power And Glory close behind at $10 each, courtesy of Neds.
The event boasts a storied history, originating in 1957 as the NSW St. Ledger.
Over decades, it evolved into one of Australia’s most prestigious greyhound races, achieving Group 1 status in 2001 under the name Paws of Thunder, with Dutch Riot claiming the January 2024 race at $2.50 with BlondeBet.
