Addington greyhound tips & best value bets | Thursday, March 9
The usual high-grade greyhound meeting set down for Thursday is once again at Addington, but this time it is a day meeting starting at 12:01pm (NZT) with the features being the Suck It Up Stakes over 520m and the Selwyn-Rakaia Vet Services Distance Final over 645m. Read on to see our best bets and squaddie selections for the day's action.
Best Bet: Mrs Chinn (Race 7)
One of the co-features of the day sees two dogs that are headed for Group racing set to fight out the finish from wide draws. Mrs Chinn has worked her way through to the top grade now, not that there was any doubt that she would get there eventually, but she has taken her time to mature, hence the 40 career starts. With that being said, she has broken 30 seconds when winning her last two starts, with her latest being from box six. She should have the inside covered for pace to the first bend and hopefully can hold out her main rival, who is drawn to her immediate outside. She has a very good middle section and has been holding her speed right to the finish these days, and with that in mind, she should be hard to peg back at a price more than you got five days ago.
Danger: Goldstar Carlito
We have tried to get this dog beaten at his last two starts and even with an indifferent beginning he just recovers so quickly that he avoids any trouble. He is drawn the widest box and wouldn't want to give our top selection too much of a head start.
Best Bet
Race 7 –
Form: 1111 | Career: 40: 10-9-9 | Trainer: J & D Fahey
Next Best Bet: Centurion (Race 9)
Centurion was really finding the line strongly over this trip (645m) at the end of last month, so much so that he was running out of room near the finish. He can be hard to catch, as he can tend to race rather than chase through the middle stages, but with slow trappers around him he could catch a sight of that lure early. With the bend coming up so quickly from the 645m starting point, he could find himself clear in front, and if that is the case, then it would take a big effort from his rivals to run him down.
Danger: Know Keeper
This guy is having his races well spaced and has been surprisingly beaten at his last two starts. His trainer doesn't have the nickname ‘Crafty' for nothing, and he will certainly have his kennel star ready for this final. Too good to ignore.

Race 9 –

Best Value Bet: Ruidosa (Race 2)
We find the value early in the day with Ruidosa wearing the striped rug for the first time in her career. In fact, it is the first time she has drawn inside box three, and with this we think she can turn he last-start effort right around. She should just about jump to the front early, and with a couple of other in-form runners having their first start up a grade there will be a nice price available wherever you look.
Danger: Hunch
Queenslanders should be familiar with this dog, but he has been away from the races for over a year, so has obviously had a few problems. Jean & Dave Fahey are just the trainers to get the best out of him and the market support will tell the full story.
