Albion Park Thursday tips & quaddie picks | September 21, 2023
Albion Park is set to host an 11-race program on Thursday night from 6:39pm local time. A fifth-grade final headlines the meeting, with the likes of Times Three, Here Wolfe and Carton Of Bear to duke it out over 520m. Read on to see our top tips and value picks for the night.
Race 3: Icy Eyes (1)
Icy Eyes is one of the most exciting middle-distance chasers in Queensland and is looking to complete a hat-trick. Always appearing as a bitch that would get further, Selena Zammit tested this theory two starts ago and Icy Eyes didn’t disappoint, winning by 10 lengths and running a ridiculous 34.78 on her first go at 600m. She then had 10 days between runs and won by two lengths at Casino over the 620m, running four lengths outside the track record. She’s drawn superbly in box one and has the speed to keep out her main rival in the early stages. Go Bing can match her early; however, If Icy Eyes can hold the rails, she’ll pull away over the concluding stages.

Race 1: Persuer (1)
This daughter of Superior Panama started her career at this track and 520m trip and had no success. She had a fortnight off between her third starts and her fourth, where she had her first race at Ipswich and won by upwards of six lengths in a best-of-night 30.41. She followed that with victory in the subsequent maiden final, beating Pringle Tiger by three lengths in 30.44. Despite not nailing the start at Albion Park to date, she has shown the box speed to lead this race from the inside with a few slow beginners drawn outside her. If she can find herself in front of Out To Sea on the first corner, she won’t be run down.

Race 10: Boys Light Up (7)
This son of Paw Licking burst onto the scene with 10 wins in his first 13 races, including six in a row and a personal best of 29.88 over the 520m at Albion Park. Since then, he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype, struggling in top company for the best part of six months. But he has slowly found his feet recently and a win is just around the corner. His last start at Casino was a pen job; the week prior, he ran 27.59 over the 484m – just one length off best-of-night figures; prior to that, he ran second to the talented Icy Eyes. Thursday’s race appears the easiest task of late, and if he can replicate one of the aforementioned runs, he will prove hard to beat.
