Rockhampton betting preview, best bets & quaddie | Wednesday 21/6/23
Rockhampton is set to host a 11 race program on Wednesday night from 6:54PM local time. The meeting is headlined by 5th grade heats where local leading trainer, Ken Boody appears to have full control with newcomer Shell And Sea (race 3) and the speedy Max Gambles (race 4).
BEST BET: Italian Steal (Race 3)
First of two fifth grade heats where Italian Steal is set to go around a heavily supported favourite and looks the one to beat. The three-year-old has raced well over his past five outings without much luck accumulating two placings including a last start third behind Ninetymile Rocks. After beginning slowly from box six, the son of Dyna Steal was able to run around rivals and finish off well, recording a strong run home time of 14.67. He is yet to win or place from box eight; however, he finished an unlucky fourth in 24.13 from this box just five starts ago against Shakey Country. On paper, this doesn't appear to be a strong fifth grade with many of his rivals bringing similar records and best times to this race. Given he can mind his own business out wide, he will come with a well timed run to take out this event.

Newcomer to Rockhampton, Miss Zoom Zoom brings a touch of class and appears hard to beat. The two-year-old has only faced the starter on three occasions over the past twelve months for two wins and a last. She was a brilliant nine length winner on debut at Maitland over the 400m when running a sound 22.72. After that, she was off the scene for 231 days and returned a winner over the same track and trip in a slightly slower time, 22.89. In her most recent outing, she finished a conspicuous last when being heavily supported to start $1.50. Since then, she has been relocated to Central Queensland where she now finds herself in the care of local leading trainer Ken Boody. She has passed a stewards trial in the lead up to this race when running second to kennelmate Bocconcini and by all reports has trialled quickly post to post. She has been well placed in this restricted 0-3 win affair and draws well with two slow beginners either side of her. Expect her to find the front heading into the first turn and given she can get a large enough break on City Way she will prove hard to run down.

One of the widest runners in Central Queensland draws ideally to claim her third victory. Despite only having scored on two occasions, Summer Weeds has shown more than her fair share of talent over both the 407m and 510m starts at Rockhampton. The daughter of boom young sire, Sennachie has raced consistently over both trips in recent times having placed in two of her past three outings. She has shown a tendency to run off the track which leads to her liking of box eight. The two-year-old has had two official starts from the pink box resulting in a win and a close second. Importantly, her best run was from this box when going 30.16 over the 510m winning by eight lengths in a race that was subsequently abandoned. She maps perfectly tonight with Who's Travis inside who can give her a nice cart across into this race. She looks likely to burn rivals off down the back and it will simply come down to whether she can get a big enough break heading into the home turn as she will run wide and cost herself two lengths.
