Rockhampton Wednesday tips & quaddie picks | July 12, 2023
Rockhampton is set to host a 12-race program on Wednesday night from 6:56pm local time. The meeting is headlined by two heats of the Rockhampton Maiden 1000 series, where the first four past the post will line up in next Wednesday's final. Later in the evening there's a cracking best-eight sprint (race seven) where Ring Me will be trying to hold supremacy, and a deep 510m race (race eight) where there are many hopes including newcomer Miss Zoom Zoom.
Best Bet: Chips In (Race 7)
While Ring Me has a terrific record over the 407m (29: 16-6-5), she has been racing over the longer trip (510m) for the past three months and could be vulnerable stepping back. Meanwhile, Chips In has drawn handsomely to return to the winner's circle. The son of Fernando Bale x Chevy Queen has been racing in great order over this track and trip, recording two wins and two placings over his past five outings. He will have to bounce back from a sixth-place finish last week from box eight, but he will appreciate the lower draw and has a great record from box one having recorded three wins and three placings from seven starts – including a win three starts ago in a best-of-night time of 23.52.

Formally with Glen Boody, this two-year-old has built an unassuming record of 16: 3-2-1; however, some of his best efforts are strikingly similar to a dog his new trainer, Ken Boody, has turned around into a nice country sprinter in Pitter Patter. Lucky Garcia has a personal best time of 20.15 over the 366m at Capalaba, while Pitter Patter has a 20.16 next to his name. Also standing off the form guide is Lucky Garcia's victory over Zipping Mork – a dog that was always around the money against better opposition – at the Bundaberg 531m. If Lucky Garcia can bring his best and run around 23.80, that will be good enough to win.

Best Value: Panel Damage (Race 4)
In an open race where you could make a case for most runners, Panel Damage is the forgotten dog. The now three-year-old hasn't raced well since arriving in Queensland, losing all 15 of his starts to date; however, his debut run for new trainer Ken Boody offered a glimmer of hope for connections. Jumping from box four, the son of Aussie Infrared began only fairly but was able to muster and find a nice trailing position, staying in the race a long time before lack of conditioning and the heavy track got him. Wednesday's race appears well within his grasp given he had trialled 23.97 prior to his first start in Rockhampton. He is drawn in box two, where he has a terrific record of six starts, three wins and two placings, and the map heightens his chances with Dynamic One – one of the worst beginners in Rocky – drawing directly inside him.
