Wentworth Park betting tips & quaddie | Wednesday, July 12
After all the hype of the Peter Mosman Opal and Vic Peters Classic last weekend, Wentworth Park returns to her serene best for 10 races this Wednesday night. We have some quality heats of girls’ and boys’ fifth-grade series, along with the much-anticipated staying debut of middle-distance sensation Like Wildfire. Throw in non-graded 520m and 280m races and we have a great night of greyhound racing.
Best Bet: Miss Mcgraw (Race 3)
Raymond Smith’s little blue girl started favourite for the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal on Saturday night but just lacked the early pace in a hot field. She goes from a Group 1 to a fifth-grade and will probably be extremely short in this race despite the awkward draw. She sizzled on this track in the heats of the Group 1 when running 29.6 – albeit on a fast track – and if she can get some room early, she can certainly run a very quick time again. Smith won’t take any chances with her if she is not right, so expect Miss Mcgraw to be at her brilliant best in this race.

Next Best: Bella Una (Race 5)
Ray Smith’s other flying little girl is Bella Una, who was second favourite for the Group 1 on Saturday night and did a great job in running second. She gave Nagar Lucy too big a head start but just kept coming and ran a respectable 29.9 in defeat. Again, she gets no favours in going from Group 1 to fifth grade, and she goes from the inside to statistically the worst box on the track. She has never had box six and has never won from outside box five. She still has a touch of class and plenty of upside, and if she doesn’t get taken out early by the speedy Spring Gold in box seven, she should be returning to the winner’s circle.

Best Value: Pazienza (Race 7)
This boy had a long break after returning from Victoria and joining the kennel of Nathan Bendeich, who is having his first starter at Wentworth Park. This time last year Pazienza was running in the Group 2 Flying Amy in Brisbane. He has taken a while to come to hand since the break, but at his best he is as good as any of these. His last start at Gosford showed just how good he can be, beginning well and leading until the final stride against Agent Nevada in good time. He is yet to be unplaced out of box six and prefers to be in the middle of the track, so he is worth an each-way ticket.
