The Meadows greyhound preview, preview & tips | Saturday, 2/9/23
The Meadows are set to host 10 races on Saturday night from 6:292PM local time. The meeting is headlined by the “Top Cat Video Cup” special event set to be run over the 730m. $25,000 will go to winning connections, which has attracted a hot field with the likes of Zoha Bale, Moraine Suzie and Alfie Moon set to fight out the finish.
Best Bet: Zoha Bale (Race 8)
The feature race on the program for the stayers, and it’s Zoha Bale who has this event at his mercy. The son of Allen Deed is currently the best stayer in Victoria and one of the best in the land. He was in scintillating form, scoring six wins on the bounce, showcasing his skill and versatility by winning over both 600m and 700m on three separate tracks. He lined up as an easing favourite in the group one National Distance Championship and was far from disgraced, running home stoutly for fourth only to be beaten three lengths by superstar stayer Palawa King. He is drawn perfectly in this race with Moraine Suzie outside him, who likes to hold her line, which will give him the space he requires to balance up and hit top gear. Watch him burst down the back straight. It’s breathtaking.

Next Best: Dewana Burger (Race 5)
Dewana Burger has found a lovely race to make it two wins on the bounce. The son of Fernando Bale has raced religiously over this track and trip over the past month and has had plenty of success. He has gotten his start right more often than not in this time, and when he does, he can sizzle, running sub-9.00 seconds to the mark. The outside box being empty will aid him in using the track a little bit. Add in the fact that there are three dogs drawn inside him who walk out, and he looks certain to find the bunny and will prove hard to run down.

Best Value: Heffernan Bale (Race 7)
Open fifth-grade contest here with plenty of these runners searching for a much-needed victory. Despite his patchy numerical form, Heffernan Bale looks well suited here. He isn’t a brilliant beginner and needs low box draws to race at his best. After a string of middle-to-wide draws, he gets a low draw here in a race that is devoid of any speed. Shima Steel and Lupini Monelli appear to have early speed; however, they’re not devastating beginners, which should see Heffernan Bale settle very close to the speed, if not on it. From there, expect the superior dog to prove difficult to hold out.
