Tuesday’s Townsville greyhound tips & odds | June 20, 2023
This Tuesday night, Townsville is set to host a 12-race program headlined by the 2023 Grand Prix final over 498m. Last year's Townsville Cup winner, Redemption Day, will start as a short-priced favourite and is drawn ideally to win yet another feature on his home deck.
BEST BET: Menari (Race 2)
Since arriving in Townsville, Menari has had three runs for two placings with his best effort coming last week. Jumping well from box three, he was unable to go with Jimmy Roo early and was ultimately beaten by upwards of seven lengths. Despite the large margin, this defeat is nothing to be ashamed of as Jimmy Roo ran a best of night time of 21.59, just three lengths outside of the track record. The important thing to note is that Menari had convincingly beaten four other rivals in Etta, Mr Gledhill, Cape Lyle and Showtime Bart. He faces those exact dogs once again and draws much more favourably in the red. With his good box manners, the Bradley Belford dog should be able to hold the rails and run away with a good victory.

NEXT BEST BET: Lady Luck (Race 3)
Unlike her name, Lady Luck has raced without much fortune of late. In four of her past five starts, the three-year-old has raced in best-eight company against some speedy customers including Federal Phantom, Good Odds Rascal and Magic Fever. She has failed to trouble the scorers in these efforts and receives a much-needed class drop now. The daughter of My Redeemer finds a lovely race with many of her rivals stepping up in grade, such as Bag The Cash and New To Me. Lady Luck has had 10 starts from box one, resulting in an outrageous seven wins and two placings. Since arriving in North Queensland from South Australia she has had the red box on two occasions, resulting in a win and a close third in best-eight company. Expect her to jump well, find the front and prove hard to hold out.

NEXT BEST AGAIN: Golden Rule (Race 7)
Golden Rule will be out for redemption in the fourth-grade 498m race after failing to qualify for the 2023 Townsville Grand Prix final. A winner of five races, he went around a heavily backed second favourite last week in the final heat of the series, where he was bumped to the back but rattled home into fifth with a time of 29.29. He will take plenty of benefit out of this run – his first over the 500m since late April when contesting a heat of the 2023 Rockhampton Cup. He does his best work from wide draws, as his record suggests with seven starts from boxes seven or eight resulting in four wins and three minor placings. He comes into this race with clearly the fastest personal best over this course and trip. With any luck in the early stages, he will prove extremely hard to hold out late.
