Drummond duo set to challenge in the Group 1 Association Cup
Heathcote trainer Shane Drummond has his sights set on securing a victory with Drill Sergeant at the Group 1 Association Cup (720m) in Wentworth Park, Sydney.
Drill Sergeant is considered a contender with 13 wins out of 46 starts and favourable odds of $3.90 to win heat 2 with the leading greyhound bookmakers.
Drummond also has Misty Black in the mix for the event set to race in heat 1.
Misty Black, despite facing odds at $12 in her heat and $67 to claim the Cup, holds a special place in Drummond's estimation due to her strength and performance history.
Even though challenges like injuries and fitness concerns exist for Misty Black, Drummond remains optimistic about her chances, especially given her Box 2 draw in Heat 1.
The competition for the $75,000 is tough, with New South Wales standout Palawa King and Queensland sensation Valpolicella leading the pack.
Both Drill Sergeant and Misty Black are poised to make their marks in the races.
Drill Sergeant, with seven wins and five second-place finishes in his 13 races, is definitely a contender.
Despite coming in second to Valpolicella in the G1 Gold Cup at Albion Park this year, Drummond remains confident in his dog's readiness.
He is convinced that Drill Sergeant's recent adjustment to distance has kept him competitive, especially starting from Box 6 in Heat 2.
With both Drill Sergeant and Misty Black showing promise, Drummond feels positive about their prospects in the Association Cup
