Flying Zulu secures the third fastest time over the 515 metre at Sandown with a time of 28.84 to win the Listed Australia Day Sprint for the Thompson kennel.

Flying Zulu delivered a breathtaking performance at Sandown Park on Thursday night, claiming victory in the Listed Australia Day Sprint (515m) with a blistering 28.84-second run as the $1.90 bookmaker favourite.

Trained by Jason Thompson, the son of Orson Allen and Cyclone Jebel stamped his class with a faultless display, securing his place as one of Australia’s elite sprinters.

Beginning sharply from box four, Flying Zulu capitalised on early jostling among his rivals to seize control, heading into the back straight.

Big Energy, a renowned chaser, settled in second but couldn’t reel in the leader, finishing 3.5 lengths adrift in a strong 29.09. Here Comes Millie rounded out the placings with a 29.32 effort.
