Good Odds Rascal delivers dominant Townsville win
Good Odds Rascal led all the way to win the North Queensland Sprint heat at Townsville on Tuesday night.
The Michael Hickmott-trained chaser lined up as race favourite in the 380m contest, paying $1.60 with online bookmakers.
From box two, he jumped well to take the lead quickly and held the front position for the entire trip.
Senor Yogi ($2.30) chased in second for the journey but couldn’t outrace the leader, who got home by 3.75 lengths with Ebby Von ($26) in third.
Good Odds Rascal – Townsville, August 15
The winning time of 21.45 slashed his previous best of 21.55 and edged him closer to the track record of 21.39, set by Senor Yogi on April 4 this year.
Good Odds Rascal started his career in September last year, finishing last – close to 13 lengths off the winner – at the 401m Richmond trip.
It took him four starts before he saluted over the 400m at Bulli on August 11 last year.
He was trained by Frank Hurst in New South Wales before joining the Hickmott kennel in January this year.
Since then, Good Odds Rascal has only gone unplaced three times in his 23 starts at the Townsville track.
The Barcia Bale x Good Odds Meghan dog has 16 wins and eight placings from 32 career starts and has banked $37,030 in prize money for connections.
Good Odds Rascal now heads to the $11,600 North Queensland Sprint Final on August 25.
