The Andrews Labour Government has recently announced the appointment of Judge as the esteemed chairperson of the Victorian Board ().

This decision marks a pivotal moment in the state's racing industry, as Judge Bourke brings her extensive expertise and legal acumen to this crucial role.

With this appointment, the government aims to bolster the and transparency of the Victorian racing sector, ensuring a fair and equitable environment for all stakeholders involved.

In a show of appreciation and support, Minister for Racing extended his congratulations to Judge Bourke on her recent appointment.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude towards the outgoing chair, former Supreme Court Judge Jack Forrest, for his dedicated service during his tenure.

Judge Bourke, a seasoned legal professional, has been serving on the esteemed County Court of Victoria for over a decade.

Prior to her judicial appointment in 2007, she honed her expertise as a solicitor and barrister, focusing on personal injuries and administrative law.

With a 18-year tenure as a Director of the Victoria Racing Club, she possesses an impressive wealth of knowledge about the Victorian racing industry.

In a move to bolster integrity assurance within the realm of Victorian racing, the Labour Government took decisive action in 2019 by establishing the VRIB.

This newly formed entity aims to provide robust and independent oversight, ensuring that integrity remains at the forefront of all racing activities in the region.

In a bid to ensure the utmost transparency and accountability within the racing industry, the WRIB was established to independently oversee the integrity assurance functions of (RV) , Harness Racing Victoria (HRV), and Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV).

The VRIB board works in tandem with the Victorian Racing Integrity Commissioner (VRIC), further bolstering efforts to maintain the integrity of these sporting events.

The Board's primary responsibilities encompass the endorsement of annual integrity plans, the provision of recommendations regarding integrity budgets and policies, and the careful consideration of proposed amendments to the of racing.

The Victorian racing industry, a vital economic powerhouse, annually injects a staggering $4.7 billion into the economy, while simultaneously supporting over 35,000 equivalent full-time jobs throughout the state.

In a recent statement, Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines expressed his views on the matter, stating, “We are committed to supporting the racing industry and ensuring its continued growth and success.”

He further emphasised the government's dedication to the sector, saying, “We recognise the significant economic and social contributions made by the racing industry, and we will work closely with stakeholders to address any challenges.”
