Greenfield singled out for new WA greyhound racing facility
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has identified a greenfield location for a new greyhounds facility, with the tri-code governing body excited about the potential to grow the sport at the new venue.
It would mean a move away from Northam, with the shift still in its early stages.
“Subject to a business case, the RWWA board supports (the University of Technology Sydney’s) review recommendation to transition out of Northam to a new multi-purpose greyhound facility at a greenfield location,” a spokesperson for RWWA told AustralianRacingGreyhound.com.
“RWWA is working with specialist civil engineers to develop concept designs for the proposed venue.”
Meanwhile, RWWA said it had some redevelopment projects coming up, with Mandurah in particular to benefit from the improvements.
“RWWA has committed significant funds towards racing infrastructure, based on recommendations in the University of Technology Sydney review of WA’s three greyhound tracks,” the organisation said.
“Already, $366,000 has been invested on initial improvements at Northam, Mandurah and Cannington.
“Tenders were recently released for the redevelopment of the Mandurah track, which is expected to be a substantial investment.”
