Greyhound star Jay Is Jay ruled out of Golden Easter Egg Series
The upcoming Group 1 Golden Easter Egg series at Wentworth Park during Easter will not feature the greyhound Jay Is Jay, who is owned by trainer Selena Zammit, winner of the Million Dollar Chase.
Mick Zammit, Selena's spouse, was taken aback by Jay's fourth-place finish in a Best 8 (520m) race at Albion Park on Thursday evening.
“I was utterly stunned.” Mick expressed his surprise at the outcome.
Jay Is Jay, born to Sennachie and Kealoah, was the choice at $1.45 in the race with the leading bookmakers.
This marked his second appearance since recovering from a toe injury that had kept him out of the G1 Gold Bullion in January.
Mick expressed concern about the greyhounds performance and indicated plans to conduct blood tests promptly.
“There's no point in bringing him to Sydney if something's not right,” Mick stressed.
A week earlier, Jay Is Jay made a return to racing with a dazzling victory in 29.60 seconds in a Best 8 event.
Mick Zammit had expectations for Jay Is Jay, who holds the track record, at Albion Park with a time of 29.35 seconds, hoping he would surpass his performance of 29.60 seconds in last night's race.
Jay is Jay currently hold 22 wins and 9 placings for 44 starts, with a total earnings of $1.54 million
Now, with a setback, there are concerns about whether he'll be able to compete in the upcoming Group 1 Golden Easter Egg series.
