Gunnedah greyhound racing return postponed, Maitland fills void

The long-awaited return of greyhounds has been delayed again due to weather delays hampering construction efforts.

Gunnedah greyhounds have not raced since March 2024, when building work to rebuild the judges box, the tower, and other safety improvements began.

Gunnedah dogs were originally expected to return for their first meeting on May 2, 2024.

In late April, that expected return date was pushed back to Thursday, May 16, 2024, due to building delays blamed on adverse weather.

Yesterday, Greyhound Racing New South Wales () advised that the return to race date of May 16 has been further pushed back to Thursday, May 23, 2024.

greyhounds, who have been picking up the greyhound meetings that would otherwise have been allocated to Gunnedah, will continue to do so until the return to racing.

The Maitland greyhound track is situated 120 kilometres southeast of Gunnedah, which is a considerable distance for trainers who would normally be able to trial and race at Gunnedah.

The Gunnedah Greyhound Racing Club expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
