Mark Azzopardi Transcends Spring Time Sprint
Appin based trainer, Mark Azzopardi continued his rich vein of form on Saturday Night (September 29), with Transcend Time taking out the 2012 Group 2 Multiquip Bob Payne Spring Sprint (520m) at Wentworth Park.
Claiming victory in 29.83, the son of Bombastic Shiraz x Elite Oriental began well from box eight taking up the lead through the catching pen, to go on an win by 4 ½ lengths over Mr. Clydesdale, Leeroy Rocker finishing in third.
Picking up $40,000 for his efforts, trainer Mark Azzopardi couldn’t have been more thrilled after the run.
“He is only a young dog, he has done so well tonight, I am just so happy,” Azzopardi said.
Being run down in last week’s heat performance, also from box eight, was of no concern to Azzopardi heading in to the final.
“I don’t really worry about the heats, as long as we get to the Final, that’s what it is all about.”
Transcend Time will now look to campaign through the Centrebet Vic Peter Age Classic Series, set to kick off on October 22.
“The Centrebet Vic Peters was the main aim all along, so hopefully he has something in the tank then,” Azzopardi said.
Wentworth Park will now turn its focus to the 2012 Group 3 Sydney Cup with heats next Saturday night, October 8.
