Megsie Marble takes out Group 3 Nowra Summer Puppy Classic
MEGSIE Marble stamped herself as one of the most promising pups in NSW with a stunning victory in Saturday night’s Group 3 Nowra Summer Puppy Classic.
Starting from box three in the $25,000 to the winner event, the daughter of High Earner and Secret Marble was only fair to leave the traps, but was afforded clear room in the early stages and was able to charge through and assume the lead in the run to the first turn.
Down the back and the $1.50 favourite had a clear lead over roughie Maya Herrara (box four) which was not going down without a fight, with Martam Gold heading the rest of the field.
Swinging for home and the favourite had to dig deep but was too classy on the line, scoring by two and two quarter lengths in a blistering 29.55.
Maya Herrara ran a brilliant race to finish second, clocking 29.72 in defeat, with Martam Gold finishing a further two and one quarter lengths back in third spot.
Megsie Marble has now won four races from as many starts, having won her maiden at Dapto in a hot 29.89 before running 29.54 and 29.65 in her heat and semi final of the Puppy Classic respectively, with $27,930 now beside her name in career earnings.
Unfortunately there was trouble back in the field on the first turn, with Fantastic Polar and Rafferty’s Rules both taking a tumble and both Blinky’s Idol and Zulu Power severely inconvenienced.
While no steward‘s reports were available on Saturday night, all four appeared to find their feet and follow the field. We will update with further information once available.
UPDATE: The only greyhound injured in the fall was Rafferty’s Rules which was issued a 56 day incapacitation certificate after it was found she had fractured/dislocated her offside wrist.
