Phoenix reserve pool greyhounds announced
The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) and Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) have announced the greyhounds being considered for the reserve slots for the 2023 Phoenix.
The third running of The Phoenix will be run at The Meadows on Saturday night, December 16, 2023, offering $1,000,000 to-the-winner.
The box draw for the eight Phoenix slot holders was held over the weekend and has delivered an interesting lineup.
But like any greyhound race, reserves are required.
2023 Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Aussie Rocks leads the list of nominations for the reserves pool, which also includes Exhalted, Mac's Damage, Tinker Norm, and 2023 Group 1 Topgun winner, Transponder.
As well as being available for The Phoenix should one of the slot owner's greyhounds not be able to take their pace, the reserve greyhounds will face off in a head-to-head match race on Saturday night called the Challenger Match Race.
The Challenger Match Race is worth $15,000 to-the-winner.
Representatives from both GRV and MGRA will form a selection panel this Wednesday, December 13, to determine the two Phoenix Reserves who will race in the Challenger Match Race unless required.
