Play Nice wins 2023 Group 3 Dashing Corsair final for Tim Britton

Play Nice winning the 2023 3 Dashing Corsair final for Victorian trainer Tim Britton.

Play Nice was not looking to mess around on Thursday night taking out the 2023 Group 3 Dashing Corsair off the back of a brilliant Tim Britton training effort.

After running second in the heats last week at his first look at the Albion Park track, the x Tears Siam dog clocked up his 11th win from 48 career starts when it mattered.

Play Nice again showed his ability to do his best work late, making up ground to take out the $30,000 to-the-winner 710m staying feature at Albion Park.

Prior to box rise, greyhound punters had made Play Nice the +500 equal second favourite with greyhound bookies, behind Zipping Whiskey who was the +190 favourite.

The locally trained, and most inexperienced greyhound in the Group 3 field, Wendy Rocks; had been the subject of a greyhound betting plunge pre-race, at one stage being backed in to $4.80, before starting as the +500 equal second favourite.

As they jumped away, She's In Clover (+1400) was quick to assume the lead from box five, with and Play Nice racing in the first half of the field.

Play Nice was able to make up ground and get on the leaders heels, as they passed the 600m on the way home, and from there finished far too strongly for She's In Clover, winning in 42.26.

Wendy Rocks, who was having just her 13th career start, motored home to run second 1.5 lengths from the winner, with She's In Clover a further length back in third.

Trained by John Dart, Wendy Rocks ran a strong second in the final, chasing down Play Nice past the finish line, to show her ability as a future genuine stayer of promise.

But the 2023 final was all about the Victorian's Dashing Corsair win by Play Nice who had previously placed in the 2022 Group 3 Fireball, and made the final of the 2022 Group 3 Top Cat Cup, both at over 730m; with the Dashing Corsair title being his first group race win.

Play Nice has had 48 starts for 11 wins and 16 placings, winning $92,300 in career earnings.

Play Nice, a younger full brother to the great , will continue to take 33-year-old Britton on a great ride with performances like that on Thursday night.
