Postman Pat tuning up for Nationals with Sandown run

Postman Pat is set to return to the track on Thursday at Sandown Park as he prepares for the upcoming Sprint Championship.

The Victorian heats of the feature will be held on August 5 at The Meadows, with the final to be run there on August 26.

Handler said the star had drawn well for Thursday and is primed to bounce back into the winner's circle.

“He pulled up well after the Brisbane Cup and he now has drawn an ideal race,” he said.

“Box six isn't too much of a concern.

“There's not much early speed in the race.

“We expect him to find the front quite comfortably and lead from go to whoa.”

Postman Pat's last start was in the Group 1 Brisbane Cup Final on July 7, after he won his heat by 4.25 lengths ahead of and .

The former Kiwi racer was a $1.80 favourite for the $1 million feature, coming in off the back of seven straight wins.

He finished second after a huge comeback having fallen to the rear at box rise, with ($8) winning the 520m final.

The x Birdie Tee dog has 17 wins and four placings from 22 starts, banking $238,405 in prize money.
