Elite Machine becomes two-time Group 1 champion winning 2023 Brisbane Cup
West Australian (WA) and 2023 Group 1 Perth Cup champion, Elite Machine delivered a massive upset to win the Group 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park on Friday night.
The $1,000,000 feature is the pinnacle of the Queensland Winter Carnival and the final delivered with the most hyped dog and race favourite, Postman Pat, being beaten by the Jamie Marsh-trained chaser.
Top online greyhound bookmakers had Elite Machine at +700 starting price, with the Jason Thompson-trained Kiwi-import superstar, Postman Pat as the -125 favourite.
At box rise in the 520m final, Elite Machine got out to lead from box four, with the favourite falling to the rear early from box eight.
The winner would go on to dominate the race and score in a winning time of 29.60 seconds, 5.5 lengths clear of the field.
Postman Pat, recovered from the slow start to travel wide off the first turn, and come from last to hit the line in second place.
Victorian greyhound Mepunga Warrior (+3000) battled away to finish in third for trainer Jeff Britton.

Elite Machine's win pushed his career earnings clear of the $1 million dollar mark, banking $1,041,905 for connections.
The son of Aussie Infrared and Pat's Lass has now recorded 22 wins and four placings from a 39 start career, and adds a second Group 1 to his trophy cabinet.
Elite Machine won the 2023 Group 1 Perth Cup at Cannington in March beating home Electrified and Mick Flash.
