Retiring High Earner Named AGRA Greyhound Of The Month
AGRA's Greyhound of the Month for March 2010 is classy Queensland sprinter High Earner. A model of consistency at the top level for a long period of time High Earner finally broke through for a much disserved Group 1 win the Perth Cup on March 13.
High earner arrived in the West after falling at the first turn in the Australian Cup final showing no ill effects of the tumble he stepped out in a heat of the Perth Cup on March 6. Beginning well he blew the opposition away recording the fastest time of the eight heats 29.93.
Although drawing poorly in box five it seemed it was his time, the brilliant sprinter had suffered his share of bad luck in Group 1's but all was put behind him in the Cup final.
He again begun well and once he found the front it was a matter of times and margins.
Carving out record breaking splits of 5.65, 13.25 and 18.61 he raced away from Victorian Arvo's Breeze and local Wassim Bale to win by seven lengths in 29.97.
Continuing on his good form he has made it through to the final of the Group 1 Easter Egg in Sydney this Saturday night, High Earner finishing second behind Fancy Mandy in the fastest time of the series so far 29.49. Then in last week's semi he again finished runner-up behind Cosmic Rumble in another fast time of 29.73.
Owners-trainers and breeders David & Christine Robartson have this week announced their champion's retirement. Due to a demand for his services at Stud he raced for the last time in the Golden Easter Egg final. A win would have seen him become the highest winning stake earner in history.
High Earner is a Black dog whelped May 2007 by Collision from outstanding dam line and brood bitch Double Guess (Wild Season x Roxy Reason) he is owned- trained and was bred by David & Christine Robartson from Churchable in Queensland. High Earner has raced 50 times for 26 wins and 18 placings, his prizemoney earnings stand at $340,285.
March was a fairly quiet month for group races with only seven decided. The major group one for the month was the Perth Cup and High Earner's brilliant win and the fact he continued on to make the Easter Egg Final got him the nod for this month's Greyhound of the Month. He beat other Group 1 & 2 winners Drill ‘Em, Auriga Fox, Our Toyman, Bogie Brave.
