The Queensland Commission () has just released details of an heard on October 5, 2023, that has seen a Queensland greyhound trainer disqualified for effectively one year after an incident at the greyhound track.

QRIC became involved after trainer confronted Ipswich driver Robert Greensill at the public trial session at Ipswich greyhounds on September 11.

On September 12, QRIC Stewards interviewed “relevant members of the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club that were present at the trials, including Greensill, Joyce Jr, and Mr Lindsay Joyce Snr.

QRIC Stewards then conducted an inquiry into the matter on 22 September 2023, and “further evidence was considered from Mr Joyce Jnr & Snr and Mr Greensill”.

After considering all of the evidence, Stewards issued Mr Lindsay Joyce Jnr a charge pursuant to Rule 156(3)(iii), which states:

  • An offence is committed if a person (including an official)) wilfully assaults, obstructs, impedes, abuses, interferes with, threatens or insults a Club, or an officer, employee or member of a Club

QRIC Stewards found that Joyce Jnr “entered a restricted area into the lure driver's tower during the conduct of these trials, and you made contact with Mr Robert Greensill, who was acting as the lure driver, an official employed by the Ipswich
Greyhound Racing Club”.

Joyce Jnr pled guilty to the charges.

QRIC Stewards disqualified Joyce Jnr for two years, but “ordered one year will be fully suspended for a period of twenty-four months, conditional upon no further breach of a similar nature during this time period”.

Mr Joyce Jnr has the right of appeal to the Racing Appeals Panel.
