Reserve runner Zipping Orlando wins 2023 Group 3 Carnival Chase

Zipping Orlando wining the 2023 Carnival Chase at Albion Park over 600m.

The John and trained Zipping Orlando won two races in one at Albion Park on Thursday night; firstly by being able to gain a start in the 2023 3 Carnival Chase final as first reserve, then by getting a luxury run from last to win the $60,000 to-the-winner 600m final.

With the scratching of Daysea's Rowdy, the John Finn-trained New South Wales (NSW) greyhound Zipping Orlando was able to gain a start in the final from box four.

Wearing the nine rug, the 2023 Group 1 Sandown Cup placegetter, Zipping Orlando, had finished third behind fastest qualifier Wheel And Go last week in the heats.

Wheel And Go's 34.70 win made him the quickest qualifier for the $60,000 to-the-winner Group 3 Carnival Chase final by some margin, with second placed Hara's River the next fastest after running 34.89.

Despite being the quickest finalist, greyhound betting sites had Wheel And Go a weakening chance with Adulate and Palawa King both firming in greyhound betting, even before the addition of Zipping Orlando to the final field.

In an open race was the +300 favourite just ahead of equal second favourites Adulate and Zipping Orlando at +360, and then out to Hara's River at +380

Jumping last from the boxes, proved to be a godsend for Zipping Orlando, as he was able to drop down on to the rail behind the field trialling defending 2022 Carnival Chase winner Keen from box one.

When Keen started to go amiss, Zipping Orlando switched out side that dog to be third by the winning the post the first time around.

Down the back straight Adulate was high-balling out in front three lengths clear of Victorian On The Off, and Zipping Orlando, but the writing was on the wall already at that point in the race, with Zipping Orlando taking lengths off the leader even before passing the 600m boxes again.

Switching to the outside of Adulate, Zipping Orlando took his time to claim the race but was always going to run past the leader.

Zipping Orlando went on to win in 34.91 by 0.75 lengths from Adulate, with a further 1.25 lengths to Wheel And Go (+550) back in third.

The NSW trained favourite Palawa King finished fourth after have absolutely no luck in running at any point.

Keen failed to finish after looking like suffering a torn muscle in the run.

Owned and bred by , Zipping Orlando is the 2023 The 715 winner at The Gardens which was worth $500,000 to-the-winner.

The son of and Zipping Dharma is the 2023 Group 1 Association Cup winner, and is a litter brother to 2023 Group 1 National Futurity finalist Zipping Mercedes, and to 2023 Listed placegetter .

Zipping Orlando has now won won $781,835 in career prizemoney, earned form 31 starts that have resulted in 16 wins and nine placings.
