Shima Current flies Victorian flag winning Group 3 The Ambrosoli
On an a night where NSW trained greyhounds dominated the feature races, Victorian greyhound Shima Current shone bright for trainer Tom Dailly winning the 2024 Group 3 The Ambrosoli.
NSW trained greyhounds managed to take out the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg, Group 1 Association Cup, Listed Ultra Sense and GRNSW Masters on Golden Eater Egg night, with Shima Current the sole Victorian greyhound to grasp a feature race on NSW's biggest night of greyhound racing.
The Victorian results were in stark contrast to years goneby where Victorian greyhounds would dominate the results.
Shima Current was contesting his first black-type group race in the 2024 Group 2 The Ambrosoli, effectively the Golden Easter Egg consolation.
The son of Shima Shine and Swift Current had finished third behind the 2024 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg winner Mackenna the week prior.
That effort was enough to Shima Current into The Ambrosoli feature race, and to have him priced as the +380 second favourite on greyhound betting apps.
Beginning quickly from box eight, Shima Current was able to barge over to the rail just past the winning post the first time, setting in place a chain of reaction which would result in Agent Shirley falling.
Through the corner and into the back straight, Shima Current was able to get out to a two length lead and was able to hold off the fast finishing One Hot Bandit and Black Tsunami, who had been challenging the whole race.
Shima Current won the $25,000 to-the-winner final in 30.12, with One Hot Bandit 0.75 lengths away in second and Black Tsunani the smallest of margins back in third.

The Group 3 win gave Shima Current a career record of 11 wins and 16 placings from 42 starts.
The black dog has earned connections $110,675 in prizemoney.
The Group 3 win capped off a great weekend for trainer Tom Dailly who won the 2024 Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup with Shima Shadow on Friday night.
