NSW (GAP) recently had a National Adoption Day in Sydney, NSW, Australia, breaking previous records by finding new homes for 48 greyhounds.

The event took place at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, Sydney, and drew a crowd.

Additional events were held in and , adding to the overall success of National Greyhound Adoption Day.

In Sydney 40 greyhounds were adopted on the day and more adoptions are expected in the coming weeks.

GRNSW CEO Rob Macaulay, who runs the NSW Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP), credited the event's success to the autumn weather and the diverse attendees.

“We saw a mix of people compared to our adoption days,” Macaulay noted.

“There's been an increase in apartment dwellers looking for dogs that suit their lifestyle.”

Macaulay says the NSW GAP team excels at matching adopters with their canine companions.

Throughout the day, there was a flow of adoptions, with Brianna and John Digby from Lochinvar being among the first to welcome home a greyhound named Lenny.

Macaulay advised those who didn't find their match at the event to explore the GAP's website, where they can browse greyhounds and receive personalised guidance on finding their perfect pet.

“These dogs are truly companions, for life,” Macaulay added enthusiastically.

“They are great for apartments, don't shed or bark, and just require one daily walk.

“It's wonderful.”

AustralianRacingGreyhound strongly recommends only adopting greyhounds through recognised greyhound adoption programs. There is a GAP in each and every state.
