The move is likely to be warmly received by local trainers as The Gardens catching pen has come in for planty of crtiticism for pulling the dogs up too quickly and too fast; so any move that might remove the dreaded catching pen from racing could be a progressive one.
On the back of Albion Park’s decision to move to fulltime finish-on racing from the 5th January 2009, The Gardesn trial will begin on Friday the 9th of January and will see one 4-dog trial over the 413m and 515m distances to be held before the first race every Friday. Trials will be have to be booked with the Gardens Administration Office and will be on a first in basis. The trials will be conducted under the full supervision of the on course vet and the GHRRA Stewards and the results will be assessed at the end of the three-month trial period. For any further information on the trials or to book a trial please contact The Gardens on (02) 4951 5482.
