Token McLaren Will Be The SA Rep At National Distance Championships

The ever-consistent Token McLaren (8) upset the favourite (4) in the South Australian leg of the National Distance Championships to secure a spot in the final to be held at .

Token McLaren is a three and a half year old chaser by and (Stately Bird – Jay Lo McLaren). The 35kg blue chaser is trained at McLaren Vale by Donald Foster.

Token McLaren will be looking to emulate Bothing’s success in 2006. That was the last time a South Australian chaser won the National Distance title. Other South Australian winners include Julep (1989), Melmade Gazza (1985), Princess Baden (1984) and Bay Road Queen (1982).

At box-rise there was an even line away. Jacko Lankan (1) and Genghis Kahn (5) showed the most pace to guide the field past the post the first time. Psychotic Gold (4) was back in the field early and started to make her run rounding the turn into the back straight. At this stage, Token McLaren was in the better position, sitting fourth and looking strong. He got underneath Genghis Kahn turning for home and won comfortably by five and a quarter lengths in 43.18. Psychotic Gold rushed home for second and kennel-mate Defib Daryl (6) claimed third place.

Token McLaren has now won 23 races from 51 starts and the trip to Cannington will be the first time the greyhound has raced on a track outside of South Australia.
